KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have selected local high school legend Bubba Starling, a three-sport star who’s signed a letter of intent to play quarterback at Nebraska, with the fifth pick in the major league draft.

Starling has been known to hit 500-foot home runs, dunk over basketball players a head taller than him and throw a football 55 yards on his knees.

Recruited by every major football program, he picked Nebraska after rushing for 2,471 yards and 31 touchdowns his senior season. Starling has been clocked at more than 90 MPH as a pitcher but figures to play outfield in the major leagues.
