LE MANS, France (AP) — Andre Lotterer’s Audi No. 2 was leading three Peugeots at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Sunday, giving Audi hopes of defending its title despite losing its other two cars in crashes.

The Audi No. 2 completed 311 laps to lead after 21 hours, one lap ahead of the Peugeot No. 9 driven by Sebastien Bourdais.

Franck Montagny’s Peugeot No. 8 was third, three laps behind, and Anthony Davidson’s Peugeot No. 7 in fourth, five laps back.

Defending champion Mike Rockenfeller in Audi No. 1 was in second place in the eighth hour Saturday when he crashed trying to pass Ferrari No. 71 driven by Robert Kauffman. Audi had lost one car barely 50 minutes into the race when Allan McNish’s Audi No. 3 wrecked after colliding with the Ferrari No. 58 driven by Anthony Beltoise.
