SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle city attorney’s office wants a judge to overrule an arbitrator’s decision that the names of disciplined police officers must not be made public.

City Attorney Pete Holmes says the arbitrator’s decision last month violates the state Public Records Act. His office filed an appeal Tuesday in King County Superior Court.

The arbitrator found that under the city’s collective bargaining agreement with the police officers union, the names of officers who are punished for misconduct should not be barred from disclosure.
