MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Geese are swimming down the streets of Minot as the Souris River floods parts of the North Dakota city.
The river is rising so quickly that its progress is visible as it inches up the side of homes. The river is expected to break a more than century-old record on Friday and go 6 or 7 feet higher by this weekend.
About one-fourth of the city’s 40,000 residents have evacuated their homes. Minot officials say no one has been hurt, but that damage will be widespread.
George Moe returned briefly to his northwest Minot home Friday to pick up some keys. Moe says he hates to lose the house where he’s lived for 40 years and is worried about his job if the shop where he works goes under water.
