A man who fell asleep at the wheel and wrecked his vehicle this morning while traveling southbound on Interstate 5 near the Clark County Fairgrounds told police “he needed to relax,” according to a bulletin issued by the Washington State Patrol.

Ibrahima Diallo, 21, of SeaTac was cited for second-degree negligent driving and not possessing insurance.

Diallo’s 2004 Dodge Stratus was totaled. The crash was reported shortly before 3 a.m. at Milepost 8.

According to the state patrol, Diallo fell asleep, struck a guardrail and the vehicle came to a stop facing northbound in the southbound lanes.

He was not injured, but requested a transport to an area hospital, telling police he needed a little rest and relaxation.
