Wood scores 30 as Valparaiso beats Detroit 88-78

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brandon Wood made seven 3-pointers and finished with 30 points to boost Valparaiso over Detroit 88-78 on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament.

The No. 4 seed Crusaders (23-10) sank a tournament-record 15 3-pointers. They are scheduled to play top-seeded Milwaukee in the semifinals Saturday.

After trailing for much of the first half, the Crusaders went into halftime up 40-36.

The Titans (17-16) tied it twice just after the break but never regained the lead.

Wood made all his 3-pointers in the second half as the Crusaders shot 51.9 percent from the field.

Nick Minnerath led the Titans with 22 points. Jason Calliste added 14, Chris Blake 11 and Ray McCallum 10 while Eli Holman snagged a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for Detroit.

Ryan Broekhoff scored 12 points and Cory Johnson 11 for Valparaiso.
