SEATTLE (AP) — More than 1,500 firefighters from dozens of states have signed up for Sunday’s annual stairclimb at the Columbia Center, the tallest building in Seattle.
This is the 20th year for the event, which raises money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The society says last year’s winner, 30-year-old Kory Burgess of Missoula, Mont., is back to defend his title. He sprinted up 69 flights — 1,311 steps — in just over 11 minutes. Also defending her title is 43-year-old Georgia Sans Daniels of Graham Fire and Rescue, near Tacoma, who finished in less than 15 minutes.
The public can tackle the same Columbia Center steps in the 932-foot-tall building on March 20 in the 25th annual “Big Climb,” which also benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
