James Madison tops Delaware 67-61 for CAA title

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Dawn Evans had 24 points and eight assists to lead James Madison to a 67-61 win over Delaware in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game Sunday.

The Dukes (26-7) earned the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament for the second straight year and sixth time overall.

Evans and Courtney Hammer (15 points) combined for 11 3-pointers and Lauren Jimenez added 12 points and 14 rebounds for James Madison.

Three-pointers by Evans and Hammer led James Madison on an 11-0 run to start, and the Dukes took a 35-27 lead into halftime. Elena Della Donne led the Blue Hens (20-13) with 23 points. Her 3-pointer with 20 seconds left cut lead to 63-59, but Evans sealed the win with two free throws on James Madison’s next possession.
