Game of the Day: State champs vs. State champs in softball

Woodland 3, Kelso 2: Emily Tisdale’s run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning scored Makayla Lefever with the go-ahead run, and Lefever got the pitching win in relief for the Beavers. … The game featured the defending 2A champions from Woodland against last year’s Class 4A state champions. (Kelso is now a 3A program.) … “It’s always special going up against state champs,” Woodland coach Damon Yeo said. … Lefever got the winning rally started with a one-out double. Tisdale followed with her double to take a 3-2 lead.

Stars of the Day

Maddie Ward, Prairie golf, shot a 5-over-par 41 on the front 9 at Camas Meadows for medalist honors in a three-way match with Union and Kelso.

Ross Campbell, Mountain View baseball, went 3 for 5 with a double and drove in four runs, leading the Thunder to a 13-5 win over Battle Ground.

Logan Grindy, Camas baseball, had three hits, including a triple and a double, and drove in four runs in an 11-3 win over Union.

Jai Girod, Fort Vancouver baseball, had five hits and drove in three runs in two games, leading the Trappers to a doubleheader sweep of Washougal.

Veronica Ellis, Heritage softball, struck out six, leading the Timberwolves to a 5-3 win over Prairie.

Denis Gorlachev, Fort Vancouver soccer, had two goals in the Trappers’ 4-2 win over Kelso.

Justin Solomon, Columbia River soccer, had two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Prairie.

Alex Wheelon, Union soccer, had five saves as the Titans topped Skyview 1-0 in Union’s first league match of the season.
