Letter: Laird knows compost, but not truth

The Columbian
Published: March 27, 2011, 12:00am

In his March 20 opinion column, “I’m no elitist; just ask my chauffeur,” John Laird, in one of his more amusing offerings, implied that elitists and compost are mutually exclusive. Had he considered more carefully, he’d have had to concede compost is worm poop and is chemically similar to those meadow muffins city folks are warned about when visiting farms.

In truth, social determinists like Laird, for whom elitism is a sine qua non, are more familiar with, and have greater regard for, compost than truth.
