South Ridge students show off math skills at competition

Ridgefield — South Ridge Elementary fourth-graders placed first in their division at the Math is Cool Regional Championship competition April 15 at Fort Vancouver High School.

As a result, they are qualified to send a team to compete at the State Masters Championship in Moses Lake in May, as well as a sixth-grade team and individual fifth grade winners, Noah Mossman and Colin Stone. Math is Cool competitions include both individual and team events.

Students work on a wide variety of challenging problems encompassing algebra, geometry, probability, and problem-solving.

Individual trophy winners were Emma Lewis, 1st place; Trevor Johnson, 2nd place; Andrew Epstein, 3rd place; and Jake Milanowski, 5th place. Team winners were Kameryn Reynolds, Nathan Sinks, Chloe Rollens, Stefan Vossenkuhl, Hayden Beird, Camden Ryder, Kellen Bringhurst, Jake Milanowski, Anna Mottola, Hayden Woodside, Elizabeth McBeth, Samantha Parker, Darya Ulitskaya, Kylan Hutchinson, Emma Lewis, Andrew Epstein and Trevor Johnson.
