Prep highlights: Camas cross country sweeps 4A district meet

Camas won the boys and girls team titles at the 4A district cross country meet Friday at Lewisville Park.

Camas placed all five of its scoring runners in the top seven led by senior Hayden Reich who won with a time of 16 minutes, 59.4 seconds on the 5,000-meter course.

Gabriel Marcham was second overall in 17:01.5. Cohen Butler was fourth (17:28.9), Max Gregory fifth (17:40.3) and Luke Tupper seventh (17:54.3) as the Papermakers finished with 19 points.

Second-place Battle Ground, with 46 points, was led by senior Todd Copper’s third-place finish in 17:02.70.

The Camas girls scored 32 points for the team win with Union second with 44.

Camas senior Natalie Peddie was the overall winner with a time of 19:00.84.

Skyview sophomore Daphne Evenson was second in 19:01.75, and Union junior Carlotte Wilson was third (19:08.51).

3A district cross country

Kelso runners went 1-2 as the Hilanders won the boys team title with 33 points, edging out Prairie with 35.

Kelso senior Kamren Mattison was first overall in 15:28.2 on the 2.95-mile course with teammate Jake Beck second in 16:01.3.

Prairie was led by Logan Bigelow in third (16:24.4) and Ethan Pedersen in fourth (16:27.1).

Mountain View’s girls team edged out Prairie 52-56 for the team title.

Evergreen sophomore Claire Rogge was the overall winner with a time of 19:20.4. Prairie senior Annie Anderson was second in 19:36.9.

Mountain View’s top runner was sophomore Phebe Willson in fourth (19:49.8).

1A Trico cross country

Seton Catholic runners took individual honors at the league meet at Vancouver Lake Park.

State champion Alexis Leone won the girls race with a time of 18:20 over 5,000 meters, while Sam Soto won the boys race in 17:01.

La Center won the boys team title with 35 points in front of Seton Catholic’s 40. The Wildcats were led by Carter Sherry, who was second overall in 17:12.

Columbia of White Salmon won the girls title with 40 points to edge out Seton Catholic’s 43. Ella Zimmerman’s fifth-place finish in 21:31 paced the Bruins.

3A district tennis

The top two seeds in singles and doubles reached the finals of the 3A district tournament at Club Green Meadows on Friday.

Saturday’s singles final features No. 1 seed Kevin Kim of Mountain View taking on No. 2 Trevin Livingston of Evergreen.

In doubles, it will be an all-Mountain View final as No. 1 Maverick Hallett and Alex Alanis will play No. 2 Jeffrey Tso and CJ Muraski.

Stars of the day

  • Andie Buckley, Columbia River girls soccer, scored two goals and had three assists in the Rapids’ 7-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Madisen Newbury, La Center girls soccer, scored the golden goal in the first 30 seconds of the first overtime period as the Wildcats beat King’s Way Christian 5-4 in overtime.
