ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan’s prime minister says the government will use “all available means” to attack militant sanctuaries inside the country.

The statement Wednesday gave no indication the army was considering new offensives along the Afghan border, where most of the militants in Pakistan are based along with other groups and affiliates who are attacking U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has been stung by a bloody 16-hour weekend assault on a naval base in the city of Karachi.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani says the country was now entering “a defining phase in the struggle against terrorists.”

Washington wants to see more Pakistani offensives to help its campaign in Afghanistan.
