Monmouth (NJ) holds off St Francis (Pa.) 48-45

LORETTO, Pa. (AP) — Julian Hayes rushed for four touchdowns, including the game-winner with 7:26 left, to seal a Monmouth (N.J.) 48-45 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday.

Hayes, who rushed for 128 yards on 26 carries for the game, ran in from 7 yards out for the final margin with less than eight minutes left.

The Hawks (5-4, 4-2 Northeast Conference) defense stepped up from there in the game’s final five minutes with a blocked field goal attempt and an interception by Patrick Gray of a John Kelly pass on the Red Flash’s final possession.

Craig Peterson was 20 of 29 with 316 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception for Monmouth.

Kyle Harbridge rushed for 197 yards with three touchdowns on 29 carries for St. Francis (2-8, 1-6).

The Red Flash outgained the Hawks 489-466 on offense, but turned the ball over twice compared to just one for Monmouth.
