Mingo leads Florida State over South Florida

DAYTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Tay’ler Mingo scored a career-high 12 points to lead No. 14 Florida State to a 62-49 season-opening victory over South Florida on Friday in the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tipoff.

Alexa Deluzio, Cierra Bravard and Chelsea Davis each added 11 points for the Seminoles. Natasha Howard had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

USF jumped out to a 7-0 lead and led 14-7 with 10:51 left in the first half before Florida State went on a 15-0 run. Howard scored eight of those points that put the Seminoles in command 22-14 with 4:59 remaining until halftime.

Caitlyn Rowe scored 19 points to lead South Florida, including eight early in the second half to help the Bulls get within 36-35 with 13:45 to play.

Florida State put together 8-0 and 7-0 runs to push the lead to 51-40 with 4:56 remaining.
