WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — David Minaya led all scorers with 20 points and the Flames withstood a late rally for a 75-72 victory over winless William & Mary Monday.

Minaya, one of four players in double figures for Liberty (2-1), helped the Flames open up a 35-28 halftime lead. It ballooned as high as 17 points before William & Mary (0-3) began a late comeback.

Trailing 71-61 with 2:41 left, the Tribe scored the game’s last seven points. They got within a point, 73-72, with four seconds left on a basket by Tom Schalk, who came off the bench and scored all eight of his points in the last 10 minutes. But Minaya’s two foul shots with three seconds remaining clinched it.

Antwan Burrus scored 14 points for Liberty. John Caleb Sanders had 12, Jesse Sanders 11. Marcus Thornton led the Tribe with 19 points. Twelve of Matt Rum’s 14 points came on 3-pointers.
