CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — Leon Powell scored 21 points on 8-of-8 shooting, Tyler Stone added 17 and seven rebounds, and Southeast Missouri State never trailed Monday, beating Harris Stowe 95-60 in the Redhawks’ home opener.
Powell, a senior, made the most of his 16 minutes on the court, doing most of his damage in the second half as the Redhawks (1-1) emptied their bench with the game safely in hand.
Marcus Brister added 12 points and six assists for Southeast Missouri State, and Nino Johnson scored 11.
Robert Mumphard and Walter Willis led Harris-Stowe (3-2) with 11 points apiece.
The Redhawks shot a blistering 64 percent from the field in the first half, versus 39 percent for Harris-Stowe, to open up a 48-26 halftime lead.
Southeast Missouri State dominated under the basket, outscoring the Hornets 60-26 in the paint, and the Redhawks bench outscored Harris-Stowe’s reserves 54-35.
