Thorns’ 16 points help TCU edge Virginia 57-55

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — Hank Thorns had 16 points and four assists and hit two huge shots down the stretch as Texas Christian defeated Virginia 57-55 in the Paradise Jam on Friday night.

With the victory, TCU (3-0) advanced to Sunday’s semifinals. The Horned Frogs will take on Norfolk State, which upset Drexel 61-56.

Mike Scott led Virginia (2-1) with 13 points and eight rebounds. The Cavaliers play Drexel in a losers bracket game on Saturday.

TCU used a 13-3 run to take a 30-17 lead with 1:56 remaining in the first half, but Virginia chipped away and trailed by two, 43-41, after a jumper by K.T. Harrell with 7:35 left in the game.

The Horned Frogs regained control by scoring the next seven points, including a layup and a jumper by Thorns.
