Purdue shuts down UT-Martin, 65-39

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Using a dominating defense to shut down a high-scoring, hot-shooting visitor, No. 16 Purdue cruised to a 65-39 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Sunday.

In winning its first three games, UT-Martin (3-1) averaged 80 points and 12 made 3-pointers but the Skyhawks managed to shoot just .283 (15-of-53) against Purdue’s rangy defense, including .273 (6-of-22) from the 3-point line.

Sam Ostarello scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half to lead Purdue (3-0), which picked up the 700th victory in program history. Courtney Moses scored 12 with a team-high eight rebounds while Brittany Rayburn scored 11.

Heather Butler led UT-Martin with 19 points but Jasmine Newsome, who entered the game with a 25.3 scoring average, was held to just two points on 1-of-9 shooting with eight turnovers.
