UPDATE: Power mostly restored after earlier outages

UPDATE: Clark Public Utilities reported at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday that power had been mostly restored across Clark County. Only about 50 customers remained without power at that time, according to the utility.

More than 1,200 residents near Battle Ground and the surrounding area were without power Tuesday afternoon as blustery weather continues to blow through Southwest Washington.

The outage occurred just after 1 p.m., and affected 1,217 Clark Public Utilities customers, said spokeswoman Erica Erland. The area lost power because of two downed lines in the area, she said. The utility hadn’t determined a specific cause right away, but chances are it was weather-related — heavy rains and wind have pounded the Northwest for most of the day.

The large outage followed multiple smaller outages in Clark County earlier Tuesday, Erland said, caused by either wind or falling trees and limbs. As of 2 p.m., the agency reported 1,315 total customers without power in the county.

It’s unclear when the Battle Ground outage will be fixed, Erland said.

To report an outage, residents can call Clark Public Utilities’ automated system at 360-992-8000.
