OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington’s redistricting panel has narrowed the number of legislative map proposals from four to two.
Officials released two suggested maps during a meeting Friday, including one proposed by Republicans and one proposed by Democrats. Commissioners have until January to finalize their plans but have set a goal of finishing their work by November.
The panel has two members appointed by Democrats and two appointed by Republicans. The commissioners have also created four different congressional district maps that they are still considering.
The redistricting process comes every 10 years, largely to ensure that each district has a balanced population
