HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Nate Eachus scored on a 1-yard run in overtime to lift Colgate to a 37-34 victory over Albany (N.Y.) in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night.

Albany, which had the first possession in overtime, took a 34-31 lead after Herb Glass’ 41-yard field goal, but couldn’t stop the Raiders from moving the ball.

Colgate needed seven plays on their winning drive, including a 14-yard pass from Gavin McCarney while falling down to Dan Basil on third-and-10 at the 25-yard line.

Eachus, a Walter Payton Award finalist and 2010 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, had 165 yards on 36 carries, including four straight to end the game.

Colgate trailed 31-21 at halftime before a 4-yard touchdown run by Gavin McCarney late in the third made it 31-28. A 24-yard field goal by Joe Uglietto with 10:36 remaining sent it into overtime.
