VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Longshore Union leaders involved in an escalating labor dispute in Longview have taken their protest to railroad tracks in Vancouver.
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union says International President Robert McEllrath joined workers Wednesday morning on the tracks in Vancouver. They are protesting a train shipment destined for a new grain terminal at the Port of Longview.
The ILWU believes it has the right to work at the grain terminal, but the facility manager has hired a contractor staffed by other union workers.
A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order last week to limit the Longshore union’s activity, after federal officials alleged the protesters engaged in death threats and assaults.
