Petzschner beats Zverev at Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Philipp Petzschner advanced to the second round of the Malaysian Open on Tuesday, beating fellow German Mischa Zverev 7-5, 6-3.

The 66th-ranked Petzschner broke Zverev’s serve twice in the second set to win in 72 minutes at Kuala Lumpur’s Putra Stadium.

Somdev Devvarman of India, ranked 89th, also advanced with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over Russian qualifier Mikhail Ledovskikh, who was making his season debut on the ATP Tour.

Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan had to retire against Spain’s Albert Ramos while trailing 4-6, 6-3, 4-2.
