Fort Vancouver continues to struggle in fifth game of the season.

The Trappers (0-5) lost to the visiting Kelso Highlanders 41-6, at Kiggins Bowl Friday night.

The highlight of the night for Fort Vancouver came in the final two minutes of the game. Running back Jose Johnson got the ball for the first time this season and sliced and diced his way through the Kelso defense for a 33-yard touchdown run.

“We might just have to get the ball to that kid more often,” coach Eric Ollikainen. “He ran hard, his legs were shifting and he bounced around nicely. He looked really good.”

As far as the other Trappers, Jordan Vela led the team with seven carries for 74 yards while teammate Isaiah Miller caught two passes for 51 yards.

The Trappers finished out the game with 133 rushing yards, 94 passing yards and turned the ball over four times off of interceptions.

“We played hard,” Ollikainen said. “Those turnovers were key, but we can learn from them and move on.”

Kelso ran for 212 yards and passed for 94 yards.

Leading the way offensively for the Highlanders was running back Slate Miller with three touchdowns, 13 rushes for 92 yards and three catches for 28 yards.

Next up: Kelso (2-3, 2-1) vs. Evergreen; Fort Vancouver (0-5, 0-2) at Mountain View (Thu.)
