The Columbia River Compact will meet at 1 p.m. today (Monday) to consider an additional commercial fishing period for spring chinook on Tuesday. I doubt it will happen given how poor the Bonneville Dam count is to date, but we’ll see.
I’ll post a story here shortly after the meeting concludes.
The Bonneville count on Sunday was 141 spring chinook. While it is the biggest daily count of the year, it is a pitiful number compared to what it should be for April 15. The cumulative count is 502. The 10-year average cumulative count through April 15 is 16,053.
There was a decent bite over the weekend at Clifton Channel (Cathlamet area) and a good bite on Sunday morning at the east end of Reed Island.
The streamflow at Bonneville Dam this morning was 271,900 cubic feet per second. Visibility on Sunday was 3 feet. The Willamette was flowing at 41,300 cfs this morning, compared to 32,000 average. Visibility in the Willamette is about 2 feet. The was a so-so bite over the weekend at Marker 6 in the Multnomah Channel.
