Razor clam digging slated this weekend
LONG BEACH — Razor clam digging will be open Saturday through Monday on the Long Beach peninsula.
Digging is planned Saturday and Sunday at Long Beach and Twin Harbors. Those beaches plus Copalis and Mocrocks are open Monday.
Low tides are -0.3 feet at 7:28 a.m. on April 21, -0.4 feet at 8:01 a.m. on April 22 and -0.4 feet at 8:35 a.m. April 23.
“We didn’t have enough harvest share left at Copalis and Mocrocks to be able to offer another weekend day of digging, but were able to offer one more Monday at those two beaches,” said Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Spring digging is on morning tides only. No digging is allowed after noon.
Diggers can take the first 15 razor clams per day. Each digger’s clams must be in a separate container.
An annual razor clam license costs $11 for state residents and $18.70 for others. A three-day license cost $6.60.
The licenses are valid through March 31, 2013.
Deep snow limits Pinchot forest access
CARSON — Curley Creek road No. 51 connecting Oldman Pass and the upper North Fork of the Lewis River road No. 90 probably will not be open until late May or even early June.
The snow plowing on Wind River road No. 30 from the south ended at Koshko Sno-Park this winter to provide access yet save money.
That means deep snow remains on road No. 51, which links the Upper Wind River Winter Recreation Area with the North Lewis valley.
“We are going to have to wait for it to melt out until people can make the loop over Curley Creek,” said Randy Peterson, Mount St. Helens recreation technician. “I’d give it another month, and it may be longer.”
The Gifford Pinchot National Forest reports about 4 feet of snow at Oldman Pass.
The gate is open on the road to the Falls Creek Falls trailhead, but it likely will be another two weeks for the snow to melt.
In the Mount Adams area, road No. 24 is open only to Atkisson Sno-Park, which four feet of snow. The snow is getting patchy at Pineside, but is sufficient at SnowKing Sno-Park for skiing.
Oregon bass club to meet April 26
PORTLAND — The Oregon Bass and Panfish Club will meet at 7 p.m. April 26 at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave.
Dave Harney, environmental director for Gunderson, will give a presentation on the Portland Harbor Partnership and the harbor Superfund site. Gunderson manufactures railcars.
Sandy delta access closed during work
TROUTDALE, Ore. — The Sandy River Delta Recreation Area will be closed Monday through April 26 to public access during construction.
The parking lot is being paved and landscaped. Work has begun and will continue through the summer, according to Jen Kevil of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area office in Hood River.
