SEATTLE (AP) — State education officials are honoring 274 Washington schools for their efforts to improve student achievement and graduation rates.
The Washington Achievement Awards are being presented at a ceremony in Everett on Wednesday.
The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education collaborate on the awards. They are based on the board’s achievement index, which focuses on improvement in student test data.
Overall excellence awards are given to the top five percent of all public schools, based on two-year averages of student test scores.
The annual awards also recognize schools that show the most improvement in subject areas or in extended graduation rates or by closing the achievement gap between different ethnic or economic groups.
