EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have drafted Notre Dame cornerback Robert Blanton with the 139th overall selection in the fifth round.
The Vikings traded their other fifth round selection to Detroit, then grabbed the Fighting Irish cornerback to help add depth to their secondary. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds, Blanton has good size for the position and played in the same secondary as Vikings first-round pick Harrison Smith.
Blanton intercepted two passes last season for the Irish.
It was the fourth pick in a busy day for the Vikings. They took Arkansas receiver Jarius Wright, USC fullback/tight end Rhett Ellison and Arkansas receiver Greg Childs in the fourth round. The Vikings have one pick in the sixth round and two in the seventh before the day is done.
