A man was critically injured Wednesday afternoon when he was hit by a car at East Fourth Plain Boulevard and Z Street, authorities said.

At 2:27 p.m., a car struck the 69-year-old at a low speed, said Capt. Kevin Murray of the Vancouver Fire Department. The man was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with life-threatening injuries to his upper body, according to a bulletin from the Vancouver Police Department.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police. There was no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, the bulletin said.

The names of the driver and victim were not released.

Vancouver police are investigating.
