Chapter Seven chosen as 2012 trotter of year

FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) — Chapter Seven has been voted 2012 Trotter of the Year after eight victories in 10 starts.

The 4-year-old trotter won over stablemate Market Share in voting by the U.S Harness Writers Association. Both horses are owned by Richard Gutnick and trained by Linda Toscano.

Pacer of the Year will be announced Wednesday. Horse of the Year will be announced Thursday.

Chapter Seven received 89 of 146 votes Tuesday and was also voted best older male trotter. Market Share won top 3-year-old trotter honors.

Other trotting divisional winners were Wheeling N Dealin (2-year-old male), To Dream On (2-year-old female), Check Me Out (3-year-old female) and Frenchfrysnvinegar (older female).

Chapter Seven earned $1.02 million with eight wins and two runner-up finishes. He also equaled the fastest mile on a 1-mile racetrack by winning the Nat Ray Invitational in 1:50.1 at the Meadowlands.
