LOS ANGELES (AP) — Daman Starring hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points to help UC Irvine defeat Southern California 61-54 on Thursday night.

Adam Folker added 12 points, and Michael Wilder had nine points and seven rebounds for the Anteaters (6-7), who had lost by one point in overtime to Pac-12 opponent UCLA on Nov. 13.

Omar Oraby scored 12 points, and former Irvine player Eric Wise had 10 for USC (4-7), which has lost seven of its last nine games and fell to 3-3 at home.

Irvine led nearly the entire game, going up by 14 points early in the second half on a basket by Alex Young. Starring then scored 11 in a row, hitting three 3-pointers, to extend their lead to 52-41. He finished just two points off his career high of 25 points and one off his career high of six 3-pointers.
