NEW YORK (AP) — Nicole H and Arena Elvira, a pair of odds-on favorites, kicked off the new year at Aqueduct with victories Tuesday in $75,000 stakes for fillies and mares.

Nicole H, the 1-5 choice, took the six-furlong Interborough for a third-straight year. The time was 1:11.01.

Arena Elvira, another 6-year-old, beat R Gypsy Gold by a neck at 3-5 in the four-horse Ladies Handicap. Junior Alvarado was aboard for trainer Bill Mott as she ran in the 1 1-8 miles in 1:51.53, paying $3.40 with her ninth victory in 17 starts.
