Breezy conditions expected Friday

Strong winds blowing in from the east could bring breezy conditions to Southwest Washington on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

There hadn’t been significant power outages caused by falling trees early Friday — Clark Public Utilities reported only one outage at 11:30 a.m., affecting just 14 customers near La Center. But winds had toppled at least one large tree in west Vancouver, appearing to narrowly miss a brick house. Crews responded to the property shortly after the incident Friday morning, according Prairie Electric of Vancouver.

The National Weather Service expected the strongest winds to hit farther east, closer to the Columbia River Gorge. There, gusts could top 50 mph, forecasters said. By 11 a.m., Vancouver’s Pearson Field had seen a peak gust of 37 mph, according to observation records.

Winds should die down by Friday evening, according to the weather service. Then it’s a nice weekend on tap for Clark County: sunny skies both Saturday and Sunday, with high temperatures in the low 50s.
