NEW YORK (AP) — LSU’s Charlene Lipsey set the Armory collegiate and meet records for the women’s 1,000 meters at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday, finishing in 2 minutes, 44.34 seconds.

Lipsey, a junior who ran many times at the Armory when she attended Hempstead High School on Long Island, broke the Armory collegiate mark of 2:44.39, set by Sheila Reid of Villanova in 2010, and the meet record of 2:45.73, formerly held by Sarah Edwards of BYU and set in 2011.

There are more than 200 teams from 130 schools entered in the two-day event, which concludes Saturday. It is the largest invitational indoor collegiate meet in the country.
