Mountain View girls basketball coach Mat Clark could not be more proud of his team Monday, and it hadn’t nothing to do with the result of the Thunder’s game.

Thinned by injury and illness, the Thunder clinched a bi-district tournament berth with a 50-48 win over Hudson’s Bay in the opening game of the 3A district tournament at Fort Vancouver.

Bailey Lindsley took a pass from Carly Holboke and scored the winning basket with four seconds to play.

“So many kids would have just bagged it with all the injuries we’ve suffered,” Clark said. “Then we had another starter out tonight with the stomach flu. So having just five, six players is not the most ideal way of going into the playoffs. But the fact is they got a win and are going to regionals. With all the adversity we’ve been through the last three weeks, I couldn’t be happier for them.”

Mountain View will face Kelso at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Vancouver, with the loser getting the No. 4 seed to the bi-district tournament next week.

The Thunder got key contributions from all who played, including freshman Jessie Wilmoth who got called up from the junior varsity to provide some depth.

Wilmoth converted two key free throws as Mountain View made 15 of 19 free throws in the game.

Mountain View also had a player foul out in the third quarter.

“We basically played the final 10-11 minutes with just five players,” Clark said.

Holboke finished with 25 points, and Emma DuChesne added 14. CeCe Wooten led Bay with 23 points.
