ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — Douglas County sheriff’s officers say a 64-year-old Roseburg, Ore., man is accused of stabbing his 38-year-old roommate in the throat with a screwdriver in a dispute about heating and cooling.

Deputies say the victim, Jeffery Iverson, told them he had “scolded” his older roommate about having the heat and air conditioner on at the same time last Saturday. Iverson says that’s when he was stabbed.

Sheriff’s spokesman Chris Merrifield tells The Oregonian that officers arrested Everett Bryan for investigation of third-degree assault, unlawful use of a dangerous weapon and menacing. He was also booked into the Douglas County Jail on a parole violation.

Iverson was treated at a hospital and released.
