OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire has invited sponsors of same-sex marriage legislation to attend a news conference in Olympia on the issue.

Sen. Ed Murray of Seattle says he expects a bill to legalize same-sex marriage to be introduced when lawmakers convene next week.

Gregoire supported Washington’s domestic partnership law, which has been called “everything but marriage.” Nearly 19,000 people in Washington are registered as domestic partners.
