EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Police in Everett, Wash., say a 42-year-old man shot in the head at his apartment has died after being taken off life support.

The man’s 30-year-old wife has been arrested in the case. Melissa Blatchford made an initial appearance Tuesday in Everett District Court and was ordered held on $500,000 bail.

The Daily Herald says prosecutors have until Wednesday evening to make a charging decision.

Sgt. Robert Goetz said Tuesday that Quinton Blatchford died at a local hospital after being taken off life support Saturday.

Police responded Dec. 29 to a 911 call from a woman who said she had just shot her husband in the head.

Court records show that Melissa Blatchford reportedly told officers at the scene that she thought the gun was unloaded and didn’t intend to shoot her husband.
