CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Sophomore DeMario Mayfield scored 25 points as Charlotte matched last season’s win total with a 74-63 victory over non-conference foe Kennesaw State on Wednesday night.

The 49ers (10-7) got 13 points each from Javarris Barnett and Chris Braswell and overcame a 60.5 percent shooting night (23 of 38) from the foul line to snap a two-game losing streak. Charlotte finished 10-20 a year ago in its first season under coach Alan Major.

The 49ers won despite a spectacular night by Kennesaw State freshman Delbert Love, who kept the Owls in the game with 26 points. Love hit 9 of his first 11 shots from the field, including 6 of 8 from beyond the 3-point line before cooling off down the stretch and hitting just one of his final eight shots.

Still, it wasn’t enough as Kennesaw State (3-16) has now lost 14 of their last 15 games.
