CHICAGO (AP) — Yu Darvish will not make his final scheduled start of the first half as the Texas Rangers attempt to get him some extra rest in his first season in the majors.

Both the team and Darvish said Wednesday there is nothing physically wrong with the 25-year-old right-hander.

Darvish was scheduled to start Friday, but rookie Martin Perez will take his place. Derek Holland will come off the disabled list and start Saturday, Rangers manager Ron Washington said.

Washington said Darvish will be eligible to pitch in next week’s All-Star Game in Kansas City if he is selected in the final round of fan voting.

Darvish, a five-time All-Star in Japan, signed a six-year contract worth $56 million with Texas in the offseason. In 16 starts this season, he is 10-5 with a 3.59 ERA.
