CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Qualifier Chan Yung-Jan of Taiwan saved two match points and rallied for a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 7-5 win over third-seeded Jelena Jankovic to advance to the semifinals of the Mercury Insurance Open on Friday.

After holding off two match points to win the second-set tiebreaker, Chan ran off three straight games to take a 5-2 lead in the third. However, Jankovic tied the match at 5 before Chan held serve for a 6-5 lead.

Chan then got her third career win against a top-20 player in the next game when Jankovic hit a backhand long to end the 3-hour, 13-minute quarterfinals match.

No. 2 seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia won her second consecutive match in straight sets, beating Poland’s Ursula Radwanska 6-4, 6-4.
