NC Central pulls away from Hampton 60-45

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Ray Willis scored 18 points and Dominique Sutton had a double-double as North Carolina Central beat Hampton 60-45 on Thursday night in the season finale for both teams.

Sutton finished with 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting and pulled down 11 boards for the Eagles.

Hampton (10-20) led just once in the first half, 7-6, before Willis hit a 3-pointer to put North Carolina Central ahead for good. The Eagles led 32-27 at halftime and led by as much as 17, 52-35, with 4:57 left to play.

North Carolina Central (16-14) shot 46.9 percent (23 of 49) from the field and outscored the Pirates 30-16 in the paint.

Darrion Pellum led Hampton with 12 points but the Pirates leading scorer was held to just 2 of 11 from the field, including 0 of 7 from deep.

Hampton shot just 27.1 percent (13 of 48) from the field.
