Vancouver — Evergreen Public Schools won an Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award from the Environmental Protection Agency for its energy-efficient operations. The district will be recognized March 15 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Evergreen’s conservation program has lowered the district’s energy bills by $1.7 million dollars annually and has saved the district $5.2 million dollars since November 2008, district officials said in a statement.

Evergreen Public Schools is one of three school districts in the United States to receive this honor, among about 20,000 participating organizations.
