VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — The Clark County sheriff’s office says the driver of a stolen car died in a crash Wednesday night near Vancouver.

A deputy spotted the car that had been stolen in Portland and tried to pull it over, but it sped away and crashed a short time later into a fire hydrant and stone wall.

The sheriff’s office says the 34-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger were taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver where the driver died. The passenger has broken legs.

Both men are from Vancouver.
