Letter: Commissioner Boldt earns respect

The sanctioning of Clark County Commissioner Marc Boldt clearly illustrates why I am not Republican. The Clark County GOP Board has sanctioned Boldt because he has come to a consensus on issues for the people of Clark County rather than toe the absolute Republican party line.

In the March 23 story, “County GOP board penalizes Boldt,” Brandon Vick, chairman of the Clark County GOP, was quoted as saying that, “Some people just wanted (Boldt) to straighten up.”

The story continues with the quote from Clark County Democrats’ Vice Chairman Nick Andre, “We don’t assume that all Democrats are going to have exactly the same views, and we appreciate that diversity in viewpoint within our party rather than admonishing it.”

And there it is that the instance of the particular speaks to the general philosophy as a whole. I would rather bring various views together into consensus than simply be a standard-bearer for a philosophy.

And that in a nutshell is why I am a Democrat.

That is also why I like Boldt.
