MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Officials at a southwest Oregon school district think a name change would help them retain students.

The Phoenix-Talent School District lost 54 students this year to the neighboring Ashland district, under a new state open enrollment law.

The Mail Tribune reports (http://is.gd/hEqNwo ) more than $300,000 in state funding moves with the students.

Officials think the Phoenix-Talent name is too limiting.

The four choices for a new name are Rogue South, South Valley, South Rogue and South Rogue Valley.

Students, parents and others will be able to vote on the name change this month at Phoenix High School and Talent Middle School.
