MIAMI (AP) — American skipper Ken Read and his Puma Ocean Racing team have won their second straight leg in the Volvo Ocean Race, arriving in Miami to end an epic 18-day match race with Camper.
Read, from Newport, R.I., steered the sloop Mar Mostro into Miami an hour ahead of Camper.
Puma also won Leg 5 from Auckland, New Zealand, to Itajai, Brazil to get back into contention. The crew had a major setback on the opening leg when the mast broke, leaving the sloop stranded in the south Atlantic Ocean. Puma scored zero points on that leg.
