OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna is making up for lost time in his campaign fundraising.

McKenna reported raising more than $640,000 during 19 days in April after spending most of the previous few months in a cash freeze. Sitting state officials are unable to bring in donations while the Legislature is in session.

McKenna raised more in those few weeks than Democratic opponent Jay Inslee did in the whole month. Inslee brought in about $525,000, including over $100,000 from the state Democratic party.

Inslee still maintains a fundraising edge, with a total of $5.4 million compared to McKenna’s $4.7 million. He also has more than cash on hand, with about $3 million left to spend compared to McKenna’s $2.5 million.
