PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pirates reinstated closer Joel Hanrahan from the bereavement list before Sunday’s game against Houston.
Pittsburgh also placed reliever Daniel McCutchen on the disabled list with a strained left oblique.
Hanrahan missed the previous three games to attend the funeral of his grandmother. McCutchen, a right-hander, was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Hanrahan’s place on the active roster.
Hanrahan has six saves, a 4.22 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 10 2-3 innings. He had 40 saves last season.
